Niosomes from Preparation to Application in Drug Delivery

چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: In recent years, the treatment strategy for infectious and autoimmune diseases has significantly changed. Up to now, cancer treatment has been conducted on the basis of clinical and pathological methods. The most common cancer treatments is limited to chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. However, cancer treatment is still not optimal. Common challenges for treatment of certain disease, e.g. cancer, are: systematic and non-specific distribution of drug agents, intolerable toxicity, insufficient drug concentration at the site of treatment and drug resistance. In recent years, the development and application of nanotechnology has been considered revolutionary in the field of cancer treatment. This technology offers a unique way to early detection and treatment of cancer. Designing and developing o new drug delivery systems not only increases the drug activity in the target tissue, but also reduces the drug toxicity and leaves it in a controlled manner. Newcomer vesicles consist of non-ionic surfactants that are biodegradable, non-toxic, stable, and inexpensive and can be used for targeted drug delivery. The niosomal vesicles are composed of nonionic surfactants that are biodegradable, non-toxic, stable and lower cost; and it can be used for targeted drug delivery. The major advantages of niosomes can be mentioned: the greater chemical stability, high purity, the availability of various types of non-ionic surfactants, proper storage of drug and cheapness.

Niosomes – Vesicular Drug Delivery System
At present days drugs are formulated by using different novel drug delivery system (NDDS) which are used for targeting drugs to different organ systems and for controlled /sustained release of drug from the dosage forms. The NDDS can be used to overcome many disadvantages of conventional dosage forms like poor bioavailability, first pass effect, systemic toxicity, degradation of drug in stomach...
متن کاملNiosomes : a Novel Trend in Drug Delivery
Niosomes are a novel drug delivery system, in which the medication is encapsulated in a vesicle. Niosomes are formations of vesicles by hydrating mixture of cholesterol and nonionic surfactants. Different novel approaches used for delivering these drugs include liposomes, microspheres, nanotechnology, micro emulsions, antibody loaded drug delivery, magnetic microcapsules, implantable pumps and n...
متن کاملNiosomes: an Excellent Tool for Drug Delivery
Design and development of novel drug delivery system (NDDS) has two prerequisites. First, it should deliver the drug in accordance with a predetermined rate and second it should release therapeutically effective amount of drug at the site of action. Conventional dosage forms are unable to meet these requisites. Niosomes are essentially non-ionic surfactant-based multilamellar or unilamellar ves...
متن کاملNiosomes: A Novel Drug Delivery System
Paul Ehrlich, in 1909, initiated the development for targeted delivery when he envisaged a drug delivery mechanism that would target directly to diseased cell. Drug targeting can be defined as the ability to direct a therapeutic agent specifically to desired site of action with little or no interaction with non target tissue 1 . In noisome, the vesicles forming amphiphile is a non-ionic surfact...
متن کاملNiosomes: a Role in Targeted Drug Delivery System
Niosomes are non-ionic surfactant vesicles inclosing an aqueous phase and a wide range of molecules could be encapsulated within aqueous spaces of lipid membrane vesicles. They are microscopic lamellar structures formed on the admixture of a non-ionic surfactant, cholesterol and phosphate with subsequent hydration in aqueous media. Niosomes belongs to novel drug delivery system which offers a l...
